  • Benched, Part 2 Or: Pulling Up a Seat to The Feast

    May 18, 2012 by Juliet

When you last found me, I was reveling in my season of “Funemployment.” “Benched,” so to speak, for the time being. Funemployment in DC has been wonderful, expansive, and healing. You can read all about that here.

I haven’t felt poor in DC, even though I haven’t enjoyed the same kind of salary that I had in New York.  In New York, it’s dizzying how quickly your money goes. Especially when you have some of it to spend.

In fact, it’s such a cliche I almost can’t bring myself to write this (yet cliches tell the truth about life, so here goes),

  • Staying Grounded

    May 09, 2012 by Liz

We’re living in a moment in life that some might consider…untethered.

Halfway between our lives in New Canaan, CT and in Los Angeles, CA.  In the middle of a cross country drive.  Momentarily paused in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

936 more miles to go, which means we’ll listen to approximately 6-7 more Tim Keller sermons, and drink about 14 more Poland Springs between the two of us.  Conor will sing Movin Right Along by the Muppets approximately 27 more times.

We’re moving to a new house.

    New friends.

    New neighbors.

    New church.

    New life entirely.

But will everything be new?  Are we just floating out there, suspended until we find stability and familiarity to ground us once again?

  • He Really Is Here

May 07, 2012 by Carrie Roberts Shope

The thought of speaking in front of a group of adults absolutely terrifies me.  I can handle a group of kids no problem. I used to teach, so they don’t scare me. But adults, forget it!

I’m feeling a little sick just thinking about it.

Last week we celebrated our last day of Community Bible Study. Titled ‘Sharing Day’, the closing activity invited us to stand up and share whatever was in our hearts- how our study this year (we did John) had changed us, impacted our relationship with Jesus, or anything else we felt like sharing.

Voluntary public speaking? No thank you.
